  • Advocacy for one another: Stand up for one another to help people live the life they want with the supports they need

  • Advocacy at the systems level: Advocate for community services that allow people to have choices and control over their supports and lives

  • Advocacy within the community: Create change in communities to ensure opportunity and full, meaningful participation for all people

Know Your Rights

The Know Your Rights training workshop was developed for people with developmental disabilities to gain a better understanding of self-determination, self-advocacy, and their rights.

Participants will:

  • Learn how these concepts can help them make choices and take control of their lives
  • Build practical skills by participating in activities that help them recognize their rights, speak up for themselves, and strive for their goals.

Know Your Rights Training Booklet

Knowing your rights can help you make choices, speak up for yourself, and be an active member of your community.

This booklet is used to guide the Know Your Rights training by highlighting important rights for people who are eligible for services through the Missouri Division of Developmental Disabilities.

It will help you learn about your rights, understand how those rights protect you, and know what to do if you think your rights are not being respected.
